Huawei present AI masterclass to digital technology students

Programming and networking students from Chesterfield College recently took part in an online masterclass provided by technology giant, Huawei. The session helped to expand their digital skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Expanding knowledge

Students here at college, and in colleges across the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area, learnt from experts working worldwide in the company. They presented over 2 full days of virtual sessions which gave students a brilliant opportunity to expand their knowledge. They learnt more about the founding and history of AI, schools of thought, major technology directions, controversies, and prospects for AI as we know it today.

Inspired to learn more

Student, Aidan Bennett said:

“I found it really useful. What we learnt at the workshop will help us in the future because AI is everywhere without us even realising. I think it will give us more job opportunities the more we know about it.”

“The most surprising thing was the huge team working across the world. It gave me an insight into how much AI is used. We went over a few of the uses of AI and the one that stood out to me was how it is used to capture when people are illegally logging in the rain forest. It has sparked an interest and we were offered courses for free to do afterwards so I might do one of those at home. I eventually want to work in software development, or, now I have seen what is possible and how interesting AI is I have been inspired to work in that area.”

  Developing knowledge for the future

Tutor, Harold Crockett said:

“The students and staff enjoyed learning about what the company is doing. It was really beneficial and we’ll use what we have learnt and take it forward in class. AI is part of the course at a higher level.  The students have now been able to see where it is leading to.”
