“I love anything mechanical but I never had the chance to develop these skills at school. As soon as I came to college I knew it was the right place for me. Everyone was welcoming and it was completely opposite to the other experiences I’ve had before. The tutors made me think I could actually do this. I knew nothing about cars when I arrived but now I am really proud of the fact that I am getting distinctions and helping other students on the course too.”
The course has helped me with my maths as well. I used to tremble at the thought of anything mathematical but now I am working out equations and things I never thought I’d be able to do. This course has given me the opportunity to apply maths in a practical way and prove that I can do it. Instead of just shutting off when I don’t understand something I have learnt ways to get me to the right answer.
Coming to college has given me choices; I can use the skills I have learnt in so many ways. Eventually I think I was to go to university and maybe on to teaching after that.”
