Last week (20-24th) was Pride Week at college. Our wonderful LEAP team organised a week of activities for students to get involved in between lessons to both educate and celebrate pride month.
The week was full of colourful activities including bake sales, raffles, makeovers, awareness walks, competitions and LGBTQ+ history. We even had two lovely members of the LGBTQ+ Chesterfield Society come in to speak to the students, it was great week.
All the £146.60 raised at the event will be donated to the LGBTQ Chesterfield charity so they can continue their fabulous work.
Natlie Bramall, LEAP Mentor and organiser of the event said:
“Pride is something we should all have, embody and express. No matter what your gender, sexuality or orientation, we are individual, unique and capable of so much more when we are united. Treasure the beauty and the brightness in all of those you meet and above all, be kind. Be kind, be curious and challenge those who are not. A big thank you to all those that have contributed to the PRIDE event here in Chesterfield College. It has been a huge success!

Over the week we held 3 competitions, LGBTQ inspired poem, shirt and flag. The students submitted their designs to our LEAP team who judged the entries to select three winners who would all win two Chesterfield Pride tickets each. A big congratulations to Alison Stenton for her poem, Corey Chapman for his shirt design and Jordan Geisthorpe for their flag design.
Natalie also wants to offer Niko, Hilton, Karl and Brenden two tickets each for helping the LEAP team out throughout the week.
We would also like to thank Corey Chapman for his music and contribution all week, he has been ace. A big shout out to those that contributed to the bake sale, raffle, PRIDE hair and beauty and the PRIDE walk.
It was so lovely to see Chesterfields College rainbow and we are excited to see our LGBTQ+ society and presence around college grow more and more over the next year. Keep spreading and showing off your rainbow colours!
