Placements develop into full time jobs for Childhood Studies students

We had the pleasure of speaking to students finishing Level 3 Childhood Studies about their plans for the future. Many of the students have been offered jobs by the schools and nurseries they did their placements in. Others are working for agencies such as Vision for Education.

Leon Turner has been at the college for 4 years. He spent a year doing Business before moving to Childhood Studies and is now ready to start working in the nursery he did his placement in.

“I think the people I worked with on my placement saw how capable I was because I made sure I was professional and worked well with the kids. I love that every day is different, you’ll never have the same day twice.”

Alfie Rhodes is also starting work in his placement nursery as soon as he finishes college. He explains why he loves working with kids.

“It’s so rewarding to see a child do something that they couldn’t do before! I’ll be working in different rooms at my nursery, like the baby room. I think with the younger kids that’s where you feel like you can make a real difference.”

Molly Conroy has always wanted to work with primary school children and, after 4 years at college, she explains how a work placement has successfully placed her with a dream job.

“I’ve done two work placements in primary schools which the college supported me to find. At half term, the school I was working in asked if I wanted a job there doing TA teaching so I’m just waiting to hear back about my start date in September. I’ve always wanted to work with primary school children and the skills and experiences the course has given me have helped me to secure this job.”

The students had some clear advice for future students thinking of taking the course.

“Get your head down early. I would start getting your resource folder for Level 3 together at the end of Level 2 because it is a big folder, filled with everything you’ve done on placement. You have to make sure you stay on track.”
