Kasey Cummins’ love of biology inspired a career in nursing

Kasey Cummins is one of our Level 3 Health and Social Care students. They chose Health and Social Care after having an interest in the sector. Kasey committed to the course and has luckily loved it. Kasey speaks to us about career placements and how currently the world of paramedics is something they are inspired to go into.

I want to either go into Parademics or Nursing.

“I chose Health and Social Care because I want to either go into Parademics or Nursing. I didn’t think I would have the GCSEs to go down the medical route as I didn’t do it at school so debated doing another course.”

I liked being out in the world and putting my knowledge into practice.

“I started on the Level 2 Course and now I am on the Level 3. I got distinction*’s last year so I knew I wanted to carry on. I think the placements were the thing that really got me excited about the course. I liked being out in the world and putting my knowledge into practice. Last year my placement was at a primary school, this year I have done it at St. Johns Ambulance Cadets.”

Everyone tells me I’d be great in emergency situations.

“Last year I was set on being a nurse but this year it’s changed and I want to learn more about paramedics. I am a really calm person, everyone tells me I’d be great in emergency situations.”

It’s strange because I hated science at school.

“I really enjoy biology. Especially physical disorders. It’s strange because I hated science at school but I really enjoy human biology. I like the course because it’s mainly coursework based so you can get a lot more support.”

Paramedics and then eventually Search and Rescue.

“After the Level 3 course, I am applying to university to do Paramedics and then eventually Search and Rescue. The big goal is to save lives. My Nannan is a nurse and has inspired me to go down the same career route.”

They make sure I turn up.

“The tutors have been great. They make sure I turn up and get my coursework done. They have made sure my attendance is good and that I perform to what I am capable of.”
