Health & Social Care Case Study

Ellie Messenger

Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care

“I loved studying health and social care at school and as a result it was my best GCSE grade so I decided to make a career out of it.  I came to college because I liked what the course offered and I knew I might have the chance to do the nursing cadetship. I wanted to be a nurse when I was at school but, after starting this course, I soon realised what other opportunities were available to me.

As part of the course I had the opportunity to go on placement as part of the NHS Cadetship at Chesterfield Royal Hospital which boosted my confidence and gave me lots of independence. I always felt valued and part of the team. In the second year of the course you can choose to specialise in a medical pathway which also helps to deepen your knowledge in lots of areas. You need a good work ethic on this course because of the amount of time you need to put into studying and work placements.

In tutorial we hear from people working in health care and it gave us chance to learn about the different career options available. It was a session about radiography which really sparked my interest in becoming a radiographer. I’m now going to university to study the subject and I think this course has definitely given me a taste of what’s to come.”
