Fashion Department collaborates with local school and Chesterfield FC to celebrate inclusion in sport

Our Fashion Department collaborated with Year 5 and 6 at Mary Swanick Primary School, and the Chesterfield FC Community Trust team to support this year’s Stonewall Rainbow Laces campaign.

The iconic Rainbow Laces have become the symbol of inclusion across sport in recent years.

After the children at Mary Swanick Primary designed t-shirts representing the messages of this year’s Rainbow Laces campaign – “Be an Ally” and “Football is for Everyone” – Chesterfield FC Community Trust approached the Fashion Department at Chesterfield College to see if they could help bring the children’s designs to life.

Laura Crawley, her staff, and the fashion students selected their favourite six designs.

The children were then invited up to Chesterfield College and worked alongside the students on specialist computer software to create digital versions of their drawings.

The t-shirts were then printed and worn by the players during the warm-up before their game.

Tom Keenan, the Primary Education Lead at Chesterfield FC Community Trust, told us:

“I was really proud of the final shirts and can only thank Chesterfield College in allowing the children to experience the afternoon with the students in the fashion classrooms.

The whole experience for the children; from the workshop, designing the tee shirts, to seeing the Chesterfield players wear them, will hopefully create a long-lasting impact on them and help them to remember the important message- that football is for everyone!”
