Elle’s work experience launches her career in the auto industry

Elle Stocks’ work experience has helped her launch her career in the auto industry.

As part of her Level 3 Vehicle Accident Repair course at Chesterfield College, Elle completed her work experience with local firm Autosupplies. Following a successful placement, and the completion of her course, she is now working full-time with the company.

Elle told us why she chose to study at college and how her course helped her to develop the skills she needed to secure her new job.

Why did you choose to study on the vehicle accident repair course?

“When I saw the course was available at college I thought it looked interesting and I haven’t looked back since. I loved the course. It has helped me to go from Level 1 as soon as I finished school to Level 3, and now straight into a full-time job.”

How did your college course prepare you for the job you do now?

“I really enjoyed panel design and painting on Level 1. We had to mix paints at college so I got a good understanding of the process, the type of finish you get and how to apply them. That has really helped with what I do now.”

What does your job involve now?

“My day to day tasks involve making up orders for customers. So, when a job comes in we’ll pick up a ticket and run it through the computer to get the combination of products we need. We then follow the process to get the right mix.”

What would you say to other girls and women thinking about a career in the auto industry?

“There are more women here than men so I think it is wrong to think that it is a male dominated industry. It literally makes no difference. If you enjoy something you should just go for it.”
