Course Overview

This course has 3 pathways that can be progressed onto. Coaching/Teaching, Sport Science and Physical Activity and Health.

Coaching/Teaching Pathways- Across the course a number of unts are centred around developing practical skills which will prepare someone to work in a sports coaching or PE Teaching role. (E.g. Leadership in Sport, Sports Coaching and Sport Analysis)

Sport Science- Some units help learners develop an understanding of the science that underpins sports performance and provides an insight into potential careers in sports science. (E.g. Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology and Sport Injuires)

Physical Activity and Health- Alongside sports-specific units, some units look at the benefits of taking part in physical activity at all level and the health benefits of regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle. (E.g Exercise, Health and Lifestyle, Sport Development and Nutrition)

    This course is entirely assessed through internal assessment methods consisting of written assignments, presentations, verbal discussions and practical demonstrations. There is no exams on this course.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE’s at grade 4 and above (ideally including Maths and English Language) or a completed Level 2 course (ideally in the area of sport)

Progression

Progress onto HE- both onto the HE course we offer at college or onto other sport or exercise related degrees such as Sports coaching, Sports Science, Physical Education and School Sport. Employment/ High levelled apprenticeships- Alongside the progression onto further studies, this course prepares learners for a career within the sports sector such as a sports coach, development officer or Leisure centre manager.
