Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing – September 2024

Funding information: Free For Eligible 16-18 year olds and First Full L2 for 19-23 year olds. Free Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Course Overview

This course, running on Thur is designed to kick-start your career and provide the necessary skills and techniques for you to become a qualified hairdresser. Learning takes place in our commercial salon, Looks, giving you real customer experience alongside theory and practical sessions. You will also be required to complete an industry placement during your studies, something we help to support you in finding/taking part in.

Throughout the academic year you will complete more minor assignments and projects that will help guide you towards/give you the confidence to complete your course. Your final qualification will then be based upon assessment of practical skills in salon environment, completion of on-line multiple choice exams, assignments, presentations, and observation of inter-personal skills.

Course Content

This qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in the hairdressing industry. These are compulsory areas:

  • Working within the hair industry
  • Health and safety
  • Client consultation
  • Shampoo and condition the hair & scalp
  • Promote products and services
  • Cut women’s hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Perm womens hair

No prior qualifications are required for this course.

Progression

This course will enable you to gain employment in the hairdressing industry as a junior stylist to develop your skills further. Alternativley you may wish to progress onto the advanced hairdressing course to learn more advanced techniques and skills.
