Course Overview

This course is great as an introductory course to the hospitality industry for those looking to learn the basic skills required for working with food and drink. This course is designed for those who have little or no previous knowledge or experience of the industry, but are keen to get their career started. Time is spent in both the classroom and the kitchen allowing those who apply to develop the skills needed to progress within college and gain confidence in practical activities.

Course Content

Learners who study on this programme will benefit from: • Internal and external work experience • The Aspire Programme • A theory project – investigating a range of job roles, career opportunities and food outlets within the industry • A practical project – designing and creating a 5-course meal • Preparation for moving onto the next level of study in Hospitality and Catering • Life and living skills – helping learners to be more confident • GCSE maths and English

Entry Requirements

• There are no formal entry requirements, however, you must demonstrate an interest in hospitality and catering during your interview

Assessment Methods

Progression

• If you successfully complete this course and develop the required skills, you could progress onto the Level 1 Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking course to develop your skills further. Alternatively, you could enter employment into a number of entry-level positions such as a waiter, porter, cleaner, etc.
