Course Overview

This course will provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the sports industry with a large focus being on sports coaching and sports development. As well as this, you will get to play and coach football as you study. Within the course itself, football is broken down into the technical and tactical elements and then we look at how we can improve player’s ability levels both at grassroots and elite levels. Another strong element of the course is planning and running sports coaching sessions and events. You will look into the life of a professional athlete and investigate their lifestyles and what keeps them performing at the highest level. As part of the course, maths and English are implemented and skills are developed throughout all of the lessons, from planning the timings in 1-hour coaching sessions to writing up coaching session plans. Maths and English are also an addition to this course and students have the opportunity to resit both Maths and English around the main programme. Within this course, you will study both onsite here at Chesterfield College and will also have lessons at Queens Park Leisure Centre and South Chesterfield Golf Club.

Regarding the football offer, there is a team for everyone whether that is wanting to play competitively, or purely for participation. The games will involve playing all over the country against different football league clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Stoke City and Aston Villa. In addition, you will also take part in two training sessions per week as well as other footballing benefits. As part of the course, you will benefit from experienced sports tutors who have industry experience in settings such as professional football clubs, local city councils and education.
