Course Overview

Have you just qualified in a trade and need to understand basic accounting? Whatever your situation this level 1 course could be the option for you.

Gain the bookkeeping and accountancy skills that will underpin your future studies. You will gain a sound basis for a career in bookkeeping, financial or management accounting. You will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need to produce timely and accurate work and to follow ethical principles.

AAT is the UK’s leading professional body offering skills-based accountancy and finance qualifications. Their qualifications are practical, internationally recognised and can open doors in any industry across the world.

Course Content

You will learn underpinning theory including:

  • How to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital profit or loss
  • The differences between trading for cash and trading on credit
  • You will also develop the skills to process customer and supplier transactions, to enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for bank reconciliation
  • You will be introduced to the dual effect of transactions

Assessment Methods

  • Students must successfully complete one end-of-qualification computer-based assessment to achieve the AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1 qualification.

Progression

This course can lead to careers as trainee bookkeeping assistant, clerical assistant, cashoer or the bookkeeping of your own business.

Progressing further to the Level 2 can lead to careers as accounts admin/technician/assistant, purchase/sales ledger/clerk or accounts payable clerk.
