Chesterfield College students celebrate results

A Level and level 3 vocational course students from Chesterfield College had plenty to celebrate today after collecting their results this morning. The majority of students were delighted to find out they had received the results they needed to help them secure a place at university, in further education, on an apprenticeship or find employment.

A Level and Level 3 Vocational results

With an A Level pass rate of 96% and a record number of students receiving the highest grades of A*- B there was a real buzz at the college’s sixth form hub in West Studios on Sheffield Road.

Students also found out their final grades for their level 3 vocational qualifications (equivalent to A Levels). Those studying in business, sport, law and travel and tourism did particularly well at securing the highest distinction star and distinction grades but there was lots of success across the 36 qualifications offered at this level by the college.

Students celebrate

Ana Constantin, 19, collected her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science and found out she had achieved 3 distinctions. She explained her results had secured her a place at university to study biomedical science before she moves on to study medicine to help her reach her ultimate goal of becoming a surgeon. She said:

“I jumped up and down when I got my results. It was such a hard year and I really wanted to get in to university so I was so nervous. The moment I found out it was such a relief. I loved studying here. Our tutors were so supportive. They offered me work experience working in the lab as well which has really helped me find other work in the sector. They supported me emotionally and college work. It was amazing. I’d give them 10 out of 10.”

Benjamin Clarke was pleased to find out he had achieved 3 As in English literature, English language and history.  He said:

“I am definitely happy with those results. We have had a long time to get ready for this so I have been pretty relaxed this morning. I am going to accept my place at York University to study English Language and Linguistics.  The tutors at college have been really supportive. I have enjoyed the ability to work a bit more independently here as well.”

Millie Slinn, 18, studied criminology, biology and psychology and discovered she had achieved 3 A grades earlier today. She told us her grades have secured her a place at Sheffield Hallam University to study midwifery and said:

“I am so happy and I actually can’t believe it. I was really nervous last night and this morning. It hasn’t been the easiest of years but the teachers have been so helpful. I definitely recommend it to anyone. Teachers have always been there to answer questions and help you. You are made to feel really welcome.”

Congratulations to all our students

This year, as coronavirus continued to have an impact on education, courses were taught virtually and in person. Grades have been awarded across different qualifications through teacher assessed grades, following the cancellation of exams for a second year.

David Malone, Deputy Principal of Chesterfield College said:

“Well done to all of our students who received their results today. Whatever their results, the hard work and resilience they have shown to continue with their studies, in what has been a very difficult few years, is absolutely amazing. We want to congratulate them all. The majority of them have achieved their target or aspirational grade which will now help them move on to the next stage in their education, or secure their first job. For any student still unsure of what to do next, or anyone who wants to understand all the routes available to them, please come in and speak to us.”

“Our teaching and support team at college have worked tirelessly to keep students engaged, on track and to ensure they were fairly assessed. It is wonderful to see students celebrating their success today and we wish them the very best for the future.”
