Charlie Hitchcock hopes to progress his engineering skills in numerous sectors

Charlie Hitchcock, Level 2 Mechanical Engineering student fell upon Engineering by chance after picking it as a whim at GCSE. He really enjoyed it, so much so he has decided to study it here at college.

Maintenance is the area Charlie wants to progress further in.

“In Year 11 we had a go at manufacturing but now I’m at college, I’m really enjoying the maintenance side and repairing things. Practical is the best part about it, we don’t have much written work and I enjoy spending time in the workshop. Manufacturing isn’t my strongest suit but I do want to improve and carry on with it.”

An Apprenticeship or the Royal Navy?

“After this course, I want to progress to Level 3 or go straight into an Apprenticeship. I’m going to finish this year and then make a decision. I’m attending the careers fair today to see what is available for me around where I live. I’m hoping to speak to the Apprenticeship Hub too at college about my options.”

“If I don’t get an Apprenticeship, I want to go into the Royal Navy and do some Mechanical Engineering on the ships. That has always been my goal but this has changed into also wanting an Apprenticeship now I’m at college. In the Navy the engineering is quite advanced, I want to advance more in my skills and I think that will be a great way to learn. It’s an interesting way to learn.”

The tutors have been great.

“I get along well with my tutors. They’ve been great. It’s also been good getting to know people with similar interests to me. I can focus on one subject that I really enjoy and that applies to what I want to do.”
