Bethany selected our Sixth Form to gain more independence

Bethany Jagger is currently studying Criminology, Sociology and Psychology at our Sixth Form. She spoke to us about her experience so far doing her A Levels and how she has already decided that she wants to take her subjects further at University. Bethany explained how her subjects compliment each other, which has really helped with her knowledge and progression within the classroom.

Chesterfield College stood out for Bethany when attending open evenings in her local area.

“I chose Chesterfield College because it is in a good proximity of where I live and the courses looked really interesting. I also got a great impression from the tutors at the open evening event I attended. I looked at a couple of other places but Chesterfield College stood out and excited me the most.”

Bethany is in her first year currently, after her A Levels she wants to take her Criminology studies further at University.

“I hadn’t studied Criminology, Sociology or Psychology before so it was a whole new experience for me. I knew I wanted to end up in one of those sectors so I thought I’d give it a go. I’ve enjoyed Criminology the most and want to go on to study it further at University after my course.”

The courses challenge Bethany but in an enjoyable and motivational way.

“Criminology has really enjoyable topics, it’s been taught in an enjoyable way as well. It’s never felt overwhelming, even though it’s hard, it’s still fun. There’s been a lot of team activities and the homework has been interesting outside of college too.”

All three subjects content go hand in hand.

“I chose all three subjects as they fit together nicely. Studying them alongside each other also helps with my learning as you can apply skills and knowledge from one subject to another.”

Bethany enjoys being more independent. She believes it will help with the transition to university.

“The tutors have been amazing. They really welcomed us in, and if we don’t know what we are doing, they are quick to help and they help you in a lot of detail too.

The transition to college has been stressful in a good way. I have the freedom which I didn’t get in school. To have a more independent way of learning and learning how to look after myself more is really enjoyable. It’s a nice transition to have middle ground of independence before University.”

“After University I would like to train to be a Psychologist or maybe a Criminology Teacher. I will see where my studies take me.”
