Why do I need the qualification?

As of 1 June 2020, a new regulation has been in place that requires landlords to have the electrical installations for their properties inspected and tested by a person who is qualified and competent. Landlords must provide a copy of the electrical safety report to their tenants and local authority if requested. This is to ensure the safety of tenants who are renting their properties.

Local authorities may impose a financial penalty of up to £30,000 on landlords who are in breach of their duties. Therefore landlords will only be hiring electricians who can prove they have this qualification.
