Course Overview
The HN Engineering course has been designed to enable direct progression to a full honours degree course upon successful completion. You will have the opportunity to investigate Engineering design, management and advanced electrical fault finding.
You can opt to pursue a specialist pathway in mechanical, electrical/electronic or general engineering for the certificate and the diploma part of the qualification. The HN is split into two elements – the certificate and the diploma.

Modules will include;
- Unit 1 – Engineering Design
- Unit 2 – Engineering Mathematics
- Unit 3 – Engineering Science
- Unit 4 – Managing a Professional Engineering Project
- Unit 12 – Engineering Management
- Unit 19 – Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Unit 31 – Electrical Systems and Fault Finding
- Unit 79 – CAD for Engineering
Entry Requirements
A Level 3 Engineering qualification that is either BTEC or EAL where you have completed electrical principles, Engineering Science and Engineering maths units. English and maths (grade C/4 or above at GCSE or Level 2 equivalent). Mature students with relevant experience will also be considered.

Progression
Successful completion of the HNC in Engineering can lead to a wide range of roles such as Electrical engineer, Maintenance engineer. You could also choose to study an extra year to ‘top-up’ your qualification by completing a level 5 HND or progress onto a degree programme.
