Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprentice

In this role you will work individually or as part of a team to carry out a range of engineering operations. This includes ensuring machines and equipment are maintained, dealing with breakdowns and restoring components and systems to serviceable condition by repair and replacement.
What will you be doing day-to-day?
- Setting & operating a wide variety of conventional & CNC machines (milling, turning, grinding and mill turn)
- Following operation sheets, in order to ensure parts are progressed through the factory on time
- Interpreting drawings & quality specifications
- Carrying out quality checks
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety
- Working in accordance with the company’s policies & goals to ensure consistency
- Develop career – Opportunities to go into CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping
What training will you receive and what qualification will you get at the end?
You will be expected to work towards the Engineering Operative Level 2 Standard, with support from Learning Unlimited.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
For the most driven and high-performing apprentices there will be the offer of full time employment and the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Level 3 Apprentice Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

As an apprentice maintenance engineer, you will learn and work on a wide variety of machinery to avoid malfunctions and other problems occurring. It is up to you to make sure that equipment is working and not in danger of breaking down. You will perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on machines to keep them running smoothly. This might include replacing worn parts and checking oil and other fluid levels.
What will you be doing day-to-day?
- Ordering and installing replacement parts
- Installing new equipment and perform checks following installation to ensure that all systems are in working order
- Carrying out daily and weekly TPM checks
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in other departments to support achievement of customer and company targets
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety, ensuring guidelines are followed in accordance with the Company Health & Safety policy and legislative requirements
- Working in accordance with the company’s policies and goals in order to ensure consistency across the Business Unit structure
What training will you receive and what qualification will you get at the end?
You will be expected to work towards the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Tech Standard, with support from Learning Unlimited.
As part of your apprenticeship and dependent on your prior attainment you may be required to complete maths, and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded an additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
For the most driven and high-performing apprentices, there will be the offer of full time employment and the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship. There will also be an opportunity to study more advanced qualifications, such as the Higher National Diploma or a Foundation Degree.
Level 3 Apprentice Mechanical Engineer (Machining)

In this role you will contribute to the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, systems, processes or services. You will also apply proven techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems.
What will you be doing day-to-day?
- Setting & operating a wide variety of conventional & CNC machines (milling, turning, grinding and mill turn)
- Following operation sheets, in order to ensure parts are progressed through the factory on time
- Achieving set production times and targets
- Interpreting drawings & quality specifications
- Carrying out quality checks
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety
- Working in accordance with the company’s policies & goals to ensure consistency
- Develop career – Opportunities to go into CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping
What training will you receive and what qualification will you get at the end?
You will be expected to work towards the Engineering Technician Level 3 (Machining) Standard, with support from Learning Unlimited.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
For the most driven and high-performing apprentices there will be the offer of full time employment and the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship and to study more advanced qualifications such as the Higher National Diploma or a Foundation Degree.
