PATHWAYS AT CHESTERFIELD COLLEGE

Our courses are designed to meet a range of individual needs, build learners’ confidence, develop their skills for life and work and help them progress towards their long-term goals.

Quick find:

Pathways is a group of courses at Chesterfield College. On Pathways courses, we support students with learning difficulties to get ready for adult life. We help with things like independence, communication and interaction, thinking and learning, feelings and confidence and getting ready for work.

We can work with you to decide the right stage for you.

In Pathways, we try really hard to get to know you well. This helps us build a timetable that you like, whilst also working on the skills you need for adult life and work.

Pathways Placements

Our Pathways students have started their work placements at Chesterfield’s The Air Ambulance Service charity shop. This placement is really important for students to gain experiences outside the safe space of college. Students are in the shop most days, gaining new life skills. Thank you to Air Ambulance for being so supportive and accommodating of our students. This is a fantastic opportunity, and we can’t wait to see both the students and the partnership grow.

Our learners.

Most of our learners are 16-21 years old. Lots of our learners have an Education Health and Care Plan, but you can still get on the course without one.

Our learners in stages 1 and 2 have learning disabilities.

Our learners in stage 3 might have a learning difficulty or perhaps just need a bit of extra time to get more confident with coming to college.

Our Pathways Student won the regional and national Young Enterprise of the Year awards 2025 through their brand ‘Dis+Vanatge’. Their ethos is to promote inclusion and the positives of neurodiversity through creative and socially aware garments for our neurodiverse generation and allies.

Two groups of our pathways students have won awards at the 2026 Young Enterprise competition at the county finals, held at Chesterfield Football Club. Spare pockets repurposed jeans to create small bags and NeuroHax produced ‘How to Thrive Guides’ for Neurodivergent people, made by Neurodivergent people. Spare Pockets won the Teamwork award and NeuroHax were the Team Programme winners.

Nial and Glen

Glen tells us all about his son’s progress over his 4 years at Chesterfield College on our Pathways programme for students with SEND. We’re all so proud of how far Nial has come, and we’re delighted with his progression onto a mainstream curriculum course, well done Nial!
