This 15 week, part-time course is designed to enable you to demonstrate welding skills typically found in industry and the associated underpinning knowledge to a level that will enable you to complete welded joints in standard welding positions. It prepares you for undertaking qualifications at NVQ Level 2 and at Level 3.

Running 17:30-20:30 on Thursdays, there are two course start dates this year

  • 14/10/24, ending week commencing 10/02/25
  • 24/02/25, ending week commencing 23/06/25

Course Structure

During the course you will complete the following skill assessments:

  • Produce a butt weld in the PA flat position
  • Produce a lap fillet weld in the vertical position
  • Produce a tee fillet weld in the vertical position
  • Produce a butt weld in the vertical position
  • Produce a tube-to-plate tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
  • Know the Process and Health & Safety requirements for Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are requires, simply a passion to learn this fascinating subject.

Free Adult funding available dependant on learner circumstances otherwise course costs apply.

Progression

Upon completion you have the option to simply leave with the skills and knowledge to further your hobby/skillset/employment OR you could progress onto NVQ qualifications at Level 2 and 3.
