Students raise £1205 for local RSPCA Animal Centre

RSPCA Chesterfield College

A group of dedicated business students from Chesterfield College organised two fundraising events on behalf of RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch which raised £1205 to help care for the animals at the charity’s Chesterfield Animal Centre.

The festive themed events were organised by 34 students studying on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business. Both groups were set a small budget, gifted by Chesterfield College, to organise two Christmas Fairs to help raise money for the Chesterfield Animal Centre.

The first group organised a Christmas Fair for students and staff, including a snowboarding simulator, face painting, festive food and drinks and a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses. The second group organised an event open to the local community, featuring attractions such as a Santa’s Grotto and local live bands playing throughout the day.

Both events were attended by the RSPCA with their volunteers to help support the students in their fundraising.

Christine Duckworth, Operations and Volunteer Coordinator from the Chesterfield Animal Centre said: “‘We really want to thank all of the Business students for working so hard on this project, they've been so supportive. The funds will go toward the general running costs of the Chesterfield RSPCA Animal Centre such as veterinary bills, food and any treatments the animals need. This money will stretch quite a way as the average vaccination cost is around £5 so this money is a huge deal for us."

Fundraising and Marketing Officer, Stephanie McCawley from the Chesterfield Animal Centre adds: "We really want to work with the students again later this year. They have done such a brilliant job and we enjoyed working with them too so fingers crossed they keep us in mind for future projects as they would be very welcome!"
