University level course gave Nicole a new career
Nicole Ball, Graduated today with a Foundation Degree in Psychology and Health Studies. She was looking for a way to develop her career in a different direction after her daughter was born. She chose to study the foundation degree at Chesterfield College because the course offered her the chance to work towards the qualification she needed to get into a role in mental health care.
She told us:
“The fact that I could study on my doorstep allowed me to fit everything in alongside family life and working. The course was an affordable option to study for a university level qualification. It has opened so many doors for me already. I did a placement with the Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health during my course and they offered me a job as a Mental Health Recovery worker. I help people find the right recovery services and support them to find out more about looking after their own wellbeing.”
“I was really surprised at how much we covered on the course and how quickly we developed our knowledge. Although it was tricky to get back into academic study I quickly improved with the support of the tutors and other students. I really enjoyed being able to share ideas and experiences with others in my group. ”
“It feels amazing to be graduating today. It gives you a huge sense of achievement. I have absolutely loved the course and it has already helped me to start a new career.”
