Career Pathway Leader Paul scoops Chesterfield Food Hero award
Paul Maude, Hospitality and Catering Career Pathway leader from Chesterfield College was named as a Food Hero at the Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards last night (25th October 2017) for his services to the industry and role in delivering the annual awards since their inception five years ago. Paul was presented with the award by Mich Turner MBE and former student Adam who now works as an events supervisor at the Casa Hotel.
Judges at the annual awards recognised Paul’s commitment and passion over the life of his career and the way that he has worked tirelessly with the team at Chesterfield College to help Destination Chesterfield deliver the Food and Drink awards events.
Paul studied hospitality and catering at Chesterfield College before embarking on a career in the industry which saw him work in restaurants and hotels, including 5 star establishments, across the UK and then return to the town to inspire and develop the next generation. He has achieved many accolades including making his famous hazelnut meringue for Princess Diana and looking after high profile guests like Zandra Rhodes and Joan Collins.
Not only do Paul and his team cater for the 250 guests at the Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards, they are judges for some of the categories and they help to develop students to compete for the title of Young Chef of the Year.
“I love what I do and it is an honour to have received the award tonight; definitely a highlight in my career and one that I hope will inspire our students. I don’t feel as if this award is all mine though. I am supported and inspired to achieve everything I do because of an amazing team of professionals I work with on a day to day basis who are just as committed to developing the industry as I am. I would like to share this award with them and thank them for motivating me.”
“The food and drink awards are a fantastic opportunity for Chesterfield College to showcase the skills of our students giving them vital experiences which will help them stand out from the crowd when it comes to employment.”
Julie Richards, Principal and Chief Executive of Chesterfield College said:
“We are very proud of the commitment to the industry our staff have. This award is well deserved because Paul goes above and beyond to make sure his students get every opportunity to get the skills they need to develop successful careers in the food and drink industry. The experience he brings to the role is invaluable, as is his ability to ensure students get plenty of opportunity to get valuable work experience with key employers.”
