Chesterfield College student crowned as town’s Young Chef of the Year

Hannah Turner, winner of Young Chef of the Year 2017

Talented Chesterfield College Catering and Hospitality Student, Hannah Turner was crowned as the Young Chef of the Year 2017 at the Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards yesterday (25th October 2017).

Hannah competed for the prestigious title in June with fellow students Eben Mellor and Rhoda Malova. The talented trio each cooked a main course and dessert for a panel of expert judges from the local food and drink industry and a representative from The Parish Church of St Mary and All Saints, the sponsor of the award category.

Her rump of lamb with parsley cooked potatoes and lavender and salted chocolate caramel tart with raspberries and crème fraiche impressed the judges.

The winner was announced as part of the town’s annual Food and Drink Awards organised by Destination Chesterfield and hosted at Chesterfield College. More than 250 guests, including the town’s restaurateurs, food producers, publicans and chefs, came together to celebrate the success of the town’s food and drink industry including the achievements of the Young Chefs. Catering, Hospitality and Tourism students helped to cater the evening including front of house service and creating a delicious meal for all of the guests.
