First class graduate sets sights on working with GPs to improve health

Graduation 16 Damon Ghasemi

Congratulations to Damon Ghasemi who graduates with a first in Health related exercise and fitness today!

Fitness has always been Damon’s passion and his degree will enable him to get his dream job in the fitness industry.

Damon chose to study at Chesterfield College because he was looking for a smaller and supportive place to continue his studies. After starting at a larger university straight after his A Levels he had suffered with some health issues which meant he had to put his studies on hold to recover. Three years later feeling stronger and keen to get the qualifications he needed to progress with his career he started studying for his degree at Chesterfield College.

He told us:

“Returning to studying was a challenge but from the word go I was reassured that choosing Chesterfield College would give me the support and the academic know how I needed. I didn’t imagine I would get a first but it’s a great feeling. I think the fact that the Higher Education courses at the college offer a smaller, more intimate and supportive environment was perfect for me and something others should consider too.”

“The tutors gave me so much support which helped to build my confidence and their constructive feedback helped me to improve, which obviously paid off in the long run. I also loved the fact that a lot of the course gave me the chance to look at the practical application of sport and fitness theory because that’s how I learn best.”

Damon is now working as a gym instructor and is working towards an additional GP referral health related scheme and personal trainer qualification that will allow him to work with health professionals to manage patient’s chronic illnesses and conditions like obesity, arthritis, diabetes and heart disease through exercise.
