Ex-Mr Universe opens up new career opportunities with his degree
Congratulations to Rob Worthington who graduates from Chesterfield College today with a First class BSc Honours in Health Related Exercise and Fitness.
Rob has devoted his life to health and fitness which has taken him to far off places and earned him many accolades along the way. His degree is the latest success in a long line of achievements which he feels has opened up new career opportunities and given him the confidence to study further.
Rob started university after school but left to open his own gym at the age of 22, by which time he had already won Junior Mr Britain. He then went on to win Mr Universe and competed in many body building competitions as well organising Strong Man Shows across the North West.
His career took him to America where he assisted in the Strength and Conditioning programme with the Atlanta Falcons American Football team whilst being a personal trainer. He moved to Las Vegas and worked in the Hotel gyms on the Strip with the guests and visiting acts/personalities. Rob is now a Technical Trainer, delivering on all the Fitness related courses at a further education college and says that his students are already benefitting from the new knowledge his degree has given him.
Rob told us “I’d thought about returning to studying for years so started to look around for courses. The degree that Chesterfield College offered was a good match with the job I was doing and how I wanted to develop. It was really convenient for me to study around work commitments and coming to a place that offered smaller groups and supportive tutors was perfect for someone like me returning to study.”
“As well as the qualifications and the deeper knowledge about health and fitness I feel I have also learnt a lot about teaching styles and techniques from the tutors who helped me through the degree. This taste of studying has made me want to do more and makes me think anything is possible.”
