Jennie and Blake grab Gold at World Skills UK

Jen Jarvis

It was party time on Saturday night at Birmingham's NEC when two of our students brought home Gold in their categories.

Jennifer Jarvis won Gold in the Advanced Nail Art category whilst Blake Robey won Gold in the Automotive Refinishing section.

Jennifer, who started with us studying hairdressing as a mature learner, moving onto nail technology as a Part Time student at Level 2 and 3 explains, "Thank you to my tutors Keron, Michaela and Sharon for all your support! I've had an amazing time. Same time next year?"

Jennie has been coming back into college one day a week for our support whilst competing as pleasingly she has secured herself a job in a local salon.

Her Curriculum Manager, Michaela, explains, "We are so proud of Jennie’s achievements, a gold medal is an amazing achievement and will now help her to map an excellent career in this industry. It really proves that hard work, a passion for the industry and fun learning experiences as well as committed learners and staff really is the winning recipe!

"Unfortunately Jennie cannot represent the UK across the world in the finals as she is out of the age bracket for the next stage. However she has agreed to support the college preparing learners for next years competitions and has agreed to represent us for one more year."

This is the second year in a row that Chesterfield College has won Gold in Automotive Refinishing, putting us firmly on the map as skills leaders in this field. Blake has also progressed from his studies into full time employment out in industry.

Blake's Curriculum Manager, Paul Sewell, says "Well done to everyone involved. What an amazing night and an amazing team. Let's hope we can make it a third next year!!!!!"
