Unique insight for Public Services students
BTEC Level 3 Public Service learners on their final year of study had a unique insight into different aspects of policing from PC Dave Randall and PCSO Darryl Hegarty.
The Police Officers covered a range of subjects including an outline of the different roles in the Police Force, a discussion about the requirements needed to become a PC, how police officers work in partnership with other public service agencies and which services assist the police in achieving their aims in making our communities safer.
The officers used real case studies to demonstrate the work that the Police undertake in the community and emphasise the welfare aspects of their roles which many people do not realise they undertake.
A Chesterfield College Security Officer also got involved in the morning’s events by participating in a role-play to demonstrate police powers of arrest. During the scenario a student simulated stealing something from a supermarket and learners were able to observe the process or arrest and then learned about the justice process following arrest.
Finally, students also found out about opportunities that they could take to enhance their work experience, develop their CV and give something back to the community including the Police Cadet Scheme and becoming a Special Constable.
