Advanced Learner Loans

Back to Students

Have you heard about Advanced Learner Loans?

This now enables anyone aged 19 or over to apply for a loan to cover the fees for an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course. Learners aged 19-23 studying their first eligible level 3 qualification* will still be entitled to full funding, this will not be affected. This expansion also removes the restrictions relating to levels and types of qualifications, meaning that concurrent loans would be allowed for courses of the same level and type (eg. ‘Loan 1’ can be used to fund a Level 3 Diploma and then ‘Loan 2’ can be used to fund another Level 3 Diploma in a different subject).

To qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan you must:

  • be aged 19 and over at the start of your course
  • be a resident in the UK (meeting Student Finance England residency eligibility criteria)
  • be studying an eligible course at level 3, 4, 5 or 6 (including QCF Certificates and Diplomas, Access to Higher Education, A Levels (maximum of four), Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships)

You will only be able to apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of your qualification, which will be paid directly to the College. A maximum of four loans are available.
