Expanding my skills a little bit more, appealed to me.

“I chose my course as I’d already worked in the industry for about a year, and I knew it was something that I wanted to do. Especially at the time, catering, front of house and expanding my skills a little bit more, appealed to me.

I started working at school, just pot washing, I wanted to do more. After I left school, I had a little break from education. I was working full-time to grasp the workings of the kitchen. I found this course and read that you did front-of-house as well as catering, it was perfect for me.

I’ve always had a passion for this industry.

I did catering at school, I’ve always had a passion for this industry. It’s only been recently since I’ve been at college, I’ve realised that I want to pursue hospitality and being out front, rather than in the kitchens.

I have been at college for 2 years. Once I finish this year I want to go into the industry. I started on Level 2 Hospitality and Catering and progressed to Level 3.

This has given me that feeling of accomplishment.

On Level 2, I really enjoyed learning new skills behind the bar. Making cocktails and drinks, that’s definitely the highlight. This year, on Level 3, I’ve enjoyed getting to know more people, managing a team and managing an event with little intervention. This has given me that feeling of accomplishment.

It gives us an idea of what it’s like to manage an outlet.

We manage the theme nights. There are 10 of us on the course and we take turns managing each event. We have The Arches, Taste on the Go, Taste and The Conservatory. All the outlets are managed by the Level 3’s and supervised by our tutor. The Level 2’s do the cooking and the serving, so it gives us an idea of what it’s like to manage an outlet by ourselves.

I definitely want to expand and learn those transferable skills.

At the moment, I’d quite like to stay where I’m working. However, you don’t get anywhere if you don’t branch out so I’d very much like to go into fine dining, somewhere a bit more high-end. I definitely want to expand and learn those transferable skills.

All the tutors are great and so helpful.

The tutors are absolutely amazing. My personal tutor is Caleb and I can go to him for absolutely anything. He’s amazing at explaining stuff and he’s always there for me. All the tutors are great and so helpful, no matter who you go to.

I want to progress into management.

My big dream is to own my own restaurant. I have always had that in my head. I want to progress into management or a fine dining restaurant.”
