Course overview

Access courses are designed to enable mature learners (19+) who have been out of education to gain the qualifications, academic skills and knowledge necessary to progress on to university-level study. During the course you will learn the fundamental factors of English and sociology, to enable you to go on to study teaching and social work. Modules include:

  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • History
  • English
  • Study Skills

Who is this course for?

This course is studied full-time over one year. You will be required to attend college lectures and seminars for a minimum of two and a half days a week. Entry qualifications

  • Grade C/4 GCSE English and minimum Grade D/3* GCSE Maths. *If applicants have Grade D/3 you will be required to sit GCSE Maths alongside your studies.
  • Interview and Maths and English test
  • Relevant work experience (or willingness to take alongside)

What other experience will I gain?

The course allows you to gain the academic knowledge and skills necessary to apply to a university of your choice and/or improved job prospects including: Teaching, Social Work, Youth work, Osteopathy, Social Studies, Humanities, ‘Caring’ professions, Psychology, Mental Health Worker, Chemistry , Human Biology, Physiotherapy, Laboratory work.

This programme allows you to go on to an undergraduate, foundation degree or diploma course afterwards. It can also lead to a wide variety of career opportunities.
