Course Overview

This course will provide a strong base from which you can progress through to a range of different routes upon successful completion. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with tutors with a rich background of engineering experience from a number of different areas
  • Train on a variety of specialist equipment in a work-based environment
  • Take part in educational visits to some of the leading names in the industry, giving you a first-hand experience of larger engineering environments
  • Apply for apprenticeships whilst you study – we have a dedicated team whose aim is to help you find apprenticeship places with 1-2-1 support

Additional Info

  • You will receive all PPE from the college when you sign up to the course – free of charge (if the PPE is damaged or lost, you will be expected to pay for the cost of new PPE)
  • You will need to bring basic stationary with you from day one of starting the course e.g. a pen, pencil, ruler, sharpener, notepad

Course Content

This course will support the skills which you have developed on the Level 2 Mechanical Engineering course. Mandatory units:

  • Engineering and Environment Health & Safety

Optional units:

  • General Engineering
  • Maintenance of Fluid Power
  • CAD
  • Engineering Communications

During this course you will be asked to carry out work experience that is relevant to the subject you are studying. This is with an external company and allows you to put what you will learn in the classroom into practice. It will also help you to develop a variety of different skills. Upon completion of the course and the industry placement, it can also help you to secure an apprenticeship, employment or assist you with your application for university.

We recommend that you start thinking about your placement as soon as you have applied for your course and consider potential employers you may want to undertake the placement with to help you get the most out of the experience. Entry Requirements

You will need to have successfully completed the Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (Mechanical) course and possess a minimum grade 4 in English (literature/language) and maths. As well as your minimum required grades you will also have to take part in a course interview so that you can meet the tutors who will ensure this is the correct route for you.
