This Derby County FC Elite Football Academy Pathway will provide you with an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the impact various factors such as exercise, alcohol and diet can have a person’s health. You will explore the structure and function of various body systems such as skeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and how these respond to different types of exercise.
For those interested in playing competitive football at an elite level, the Derby County FC Community Trust Football Academy pathway is available. You will be one of 20 players competing in an elite league against teams such as Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.
You will benefit from instruction from, and access to, a nutrition coach and strength and conditioning coach, and will undertake an additional 8 hours of football training each week (including some twilight sessions).
Please note, you must be aged 18 or under before 31st August 2019 in order to play in the elite league.
Delivery of this course will be over four days per week with a mixture of practical lessons, theory lessons and online tasks. Wednesday and Friday afternoons tend to be off timetable for football fixtures. The majority of your lessons will take place at Queens Park Sports Centre where you will have access to the classrooms, sports hall and astro turf. During the course you will be invited to undertake a residential visit that will be organised through Derby County Football club.
As part of your course you will be required to undertake 30 hours of work placement you will be supported to access opportunities through your tutors and staff at Derby County. As a member of the Elite Football Programme you will invited to a tour of Derby County Football Academy and participate in the team photo shoot that takes place at the football ground. There will be opportunities to play against other clubs such as Sheffield United, West Brom and Nottingham Forest.
As part of the programme you will be training twice a week with Derby County Coaches (UEFA B Licensed Coaches) Match Day is Wednesday also with opportunity to play in a Friday league format (Two Games Per Week)There are no exams for this course. The course will be assessed through course work where you will be tasked to produce assignments and booklets and verbal podcasts and participation in discussions individually and as part of a group. There will be practical assessments for a number of modules.

Four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (one must be in English or maths) or a relevant Level 2 qualification.
For the football academy, you will be required to undertake a trial.
Upon successful completion of this course, you can choose to study the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training or progress on to further study at a university (such as the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching available at Chesterfield College) or enter employment.
For those on the Derby County FC football academy pathway, you can utilise the club’s international links to apply for scholarships to US colleges or play for non-league clubs (dependent on ability).
