Course Overview

The Level 1 programme provides a good insight to both the Sport and Public Service sector, the course has a wide range of units in which you can explore and develop your skills and knowledge across both areas. You will benefit from working with teaching staff that have a vast range of experience within both sports and public services. The course has been designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to make the correct choices for yourself to progress into the next stage of your aspirational journey.

You will develop the important interpersonal skills needed for a career in sport and public services, such as communication, collaboration and teamwork. The Sport aspect of the course focusses on both sport coaching and fitness, these are important aspects of the area itself and have been a successful link between our course and further progression or employment. The public services aspect of the course gives the opportunity to you to work on developing communication, resilience, teamwork and self-development. There will be opportunities to work in partnership with local schools at the Chesterfield Tennis Centre where the local schools come together to participate in events organised by the Chesterfield School Partnership that is supported by the students on this level 1 programme.

The course is split evenly between practical lessons and theory based lessons with a range of assessment methods used to help you achieve the qualification.

Course Content

This course will benefit the learners who wish to progress to further courses in sport or public services at level 2. The units have been picked to ensure that there is variety in the learning for those intending to work in, settings such as sport and recreation, exercise and fitness, and the public services.

This course will increase your understanding of the principles of sport, fitness testing and how to plan your own fitness programme. You will also learn about teamwork and leadership and what is needed to plan and deliver activities and events. Career planning also features in this course and what is needed for you to plan your journey to employment or further study.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades A-F/9-1 including English or maths.
