Course Overview

This course is a Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Food preparation and Cooking with aspects of Hospitality included. It is an ideal starting point for those who want to work in food and hospitality. You will learn the basic skills and knowledge required to work in hospitality environments, preparing you for higher level study and skills development.

This course is comprised of three qualifications and is a 1 year program:

  • NVQ Level 1 in Basic Food Preparation & Cooking
  • Level 1 Award Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
  • Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

This course will introduce you to the catering industry. You will learn the basic skills and processes required to prepare you for working both back of house as a chef, as well as front of house as a waiter.

The college has its own restaurant, Taste, where you will have the opportunity to put your skills into practice.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSEs at grade 3 or above or the Entry Level Introduction to Hospitality.

Progression

Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress to a Level 2 course in Professional Cookery or Hospitality Services.
