Course Overview
If you are interested in pursuing a career in plumbing then this is the ideal starting point. During the course you will work alongside our expert tutors to learn the basic skills and knowledge you need to progress on to the next level of plumbing. You will study in our industry simulated workshops which will allow you to practice your practical skills. The course is intended to give you a basic understanding of plumbing and heating.
It consists of both knowledge and practical assessments which provide a platform to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Foundation, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating or Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Heating.
The qualification is intended for 16-19 year old learners who are in full time education. It is for someone who wants to work in the building services engineering sector and envisages a career as a Plumber or Plumbing & Heating Engineer. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, such as adults, who are interested in plumbing or changing their career path.
Course Content
The qualification requires the completion of 9 units (all of which are mandatory) and includes the assessment of both knowledge and practical skills. The topics covered are:
- Understand and carry out safe working practices in Building Services Engineering
- Understand how to communicate with others within Building Services Engineering
- Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within BSE
- Understand fundamental scientific principles within building services engineering
- Understand and carry out copper pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
- Understand and carry out low carbon steel pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
- Understand and carry out plastic pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
- Understand the key features of domestic plumbing systems
- Understand and demonstrate techniques for installing and securing plumbing pipework
Entry Requirements
Grade 3 in maths and English.

Progression
Upon successful completion of this course, you can choose to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing.
