Course OverviewThis course is designed to prepare you for a career as a professional sports coach. Whether you want to work in performance, participation, in schools, governing bodies, professional sports clubs or a commercial activity settings, the course aims to challenge and support your development to be the best sports coach you can be. Whether you aspire to coach children, adolescents or adults as a professional sports coach we will extend your knowledge and understanding of how to design coaching sessions, plan for participant development or adapt your delivery to achieve desired outcomes, we'll help you get there. This course is offered in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and provides you with access to the wide range of sporting facilities available at the SHU campus, including sports pitches, gyms, libraries and traninig centres. You can also join the university sports teams and benefit from opportunities to coach individuals and/or teams as part of your development as a professional coach.
You will study: Coaching Science, Developing Academic & Professional Practice, Coaching Active Lifestyles, Sport Coaching Foundation, Developing Physical Literacy, Scientific Applications to Coaching, The Sport Coaching Process, Innovative and Inclusive Delivery, Research in Sport Development and Coaching, Training and Nutritional Requirements of Athletes, Psychosocial Aspects of Sports Coaching.
A relevant Level 3 qualification, English and maths (grade C/4 or above at GCSE or Level 2 equivalent). Mature students with relevant experience will also be considered.

Successful completion of the FdSc Sport Coaching can lead to a wide range of careers including: Sports Coach, Personal Trainer, Nutritionist. Upon successful completion of the FdSc you can ‘top up’ to a related BSc (Hons) degree in sport by undertaking an additional year of study, or pursue Initial Teacher Training if you aim to teach PE/sports within a secondary school or college environment.
