Course Overview

This course works to prepare you for your next step in your career, returning to education to gain the skills required to compete at Higher Education. Through an understanding of the basics and core elements of engineering in an in-depth way, and also by learning the necessary techniques to produce at higher level assignments, where independent study and research as well as taking responsibility for your success is vital.

We work with you to develop your current skills and become adept at technical writing, assignments and presentation as well as working to improve the surrounding knowledge for your chosen stream, all to prepare you to excel during higher education.

You will be supported in writing applications, interviews and gain valuable work-life skills such as “How to Write an Engineering CV” and “How to present yourself at an interview” which will help you throughout your career. Not only do we aim to prepare you with the knowledge and skills required for the developing engineering field, we want to work to provide you with skills that will help you stand out at your future workplace.

Course Content

During your time on this course you will be covering a variety of different areas of engineering and its core elements. Alongside this, you will also gain valuable experience in the skills required for higher education including research, referencing, essay writing and presenting.

There are two pathways available for this course, Engineering Science or a more general Engineering pathway.Each follow a shared majority of units and separate specialised units for each stream. During this Engineering Science pathway you will study:

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements of GCSE grade 5 in Maths, English and one Science subject pending an interview. Industry Experience of 3+ Years in an engineering field will be accepted as an alternate entry requirement.

This course lays a pathway to higher level education in engineering, aiming towards a progression to a Level 4 course, specialising into either Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Post progression to Level 4, there is the option of progressing to a Level 5. Aiming towards a move into University level Engineering (Levels 6 and 7) via a Top-Up degree or a full course.
