Course OverviewHistory is about the present and the future not just the past. If you don’t know where you’ve come from, you don’t know where you’re going. It opens up a fascinating and dynamic way of thinking about society and humanity. History is in demand from universities and employers because it requires you to retain and process complex knowledge and ideas, critically engage and analyse, and express ourselves clearly and accurately.
During the first year of the course you will study:
- British Period Study and Enquiry (1930-1977) particularly focusing on Churchill (1930-1951)
- Democracy and Dictatorship in Germany (1919-1963)
The second and final year of study you will focus on:
- The Challenge of German Nationalism (1789-1919)
- The Russian Revolutions (1894-1924)
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above (including English and maths). You will also need to have a general interest in historical matters, have an inquiring mind and an excellent work ethic.
You will be able to progress to university level study or on to employment. Former students have chosen degrees in subjects such as history, law, politics, archaeology and PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics).
