There are opportunities for creative writing, a language investigation and a number of trips to enhance your learning experience. Our A Level English students have a strong record for progression in employment or higher education. The subject is held in high regard by employers and Higher Education providers. The qualification can lead to a huge range of careers as every aspect of work has transferable skills such as analysis, critical thinking and a high level of accuracy in communication.
Your classes are held in the beautifully redeveloped West Block building on Sheffield Road, formally Chesterfield's Old Boys' Grammar School many years ago. It also houses West Studios, a studio environment for working artists and creative companies. This provides a vibrant and creative environment in which to study that is just 5 minutes walk in to the town centre.
Whilst studying AQA English Language at A Level you will learn about:
- How to evaluate a wide range of texts from diverse periods throughout time
- The development of child language
- The history and diversity of the language we use today.
Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (including English and maths). Ideally the course will suit those with a 6 or above in GCSE English.
Upon successful completion of this course, you can choose to progress on to further study at university or enter employment.
