College Wear it Pink day raises cash for a great cause

Just before half term students and staff wore it pink to raise money to help fund life-saving breast cancer research and make life-changing care possible. Departments across college came together to create a fun event that raised almost £500 for the charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Fundraising activities

There was a host of fun games and activities taking place in the Heartspace on 21 October. Foundation studies, childhood studies and catering students sold a wide range of handcrafted items. Media make-up and beauty therapy students also offered eye-catching pink face glitter and nails to anyone willing to make a small donation to the cause.

The electrical engineering team challenged everyone to a giant buzzer game they had created using the skills they are learning in the classroom. The digital, media and music team set up a very popular games competition, a hook-a-duck game and a karaoke challenge.

Community involvement

Our student services team ran a raffle with some amazing prizes on offer donated by college staff and a wide range of local companies including;

  • Cineworld (Sheffield)
  • Chezzie Burger
  • Rachel Smith Beauty
  • Beth Jefferson Fitness
  • Fresh Prep
  • The Project Health & Fitness
  • Matlock Farm Park
  • Supps_2_go
  • Dominos

We also welcomed JD Gyms to the event. They provided a fitness challenge for students and staff to take part in and talked about the importance of maintaining fitness on general health and wellbeing.

A huge thank you

At the event, Sarah Vaughan, Healthy Lifestyle Lead, and organiser of the Wear it Pink day, said:

“It has been amazing to see how many people have supported this event today and helped us to support this important charity who do so much for the people affected by breast cancer, now and in the future. It is so good to see everyone wearing pink and getting involved – there’s a real community feeling. I’d like to thank everyone who has played a part by organising activities, making things to sell and donating raffle prizes.”
