When faced with the choice of what to do after her GCSEs it was an easy decision for Beth. She chose to come to Chesterfield College’s sixth form to study chemistry and biology because she loved the subjects so much. She also added sociology and psychology to the list of subjects she was studying because she felt that there was a good crossover that might help her to develop a career in the sciences in the future.
“I really believe coming to college has given me much more choice. When I first started college I was thinking about nursing as a career but now I would love to work in biochemistry or to teach chemistry. I really feel work experience is important though which is why I am looking to further my studies through an apprenticeship rather than going to university.”
“Studying A Levels really gives you the chance to apply your knowledge. You get the chance to explore subjects in greater depth which I have found fascinating. It is challenging but I think that has definitely helped me to grow and develop. Coming to college rather than staying at school gives you lots of responsibilities. Tutors treat you like an adult, so you act like one.”
