Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator)

“For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for working with young children. I volunteer at the Beaver Scouts and really enjoy it so I knew I had to come to college to follow my dream career of becoming a teacher.

I didn’t know anyone at college so it was a little scary to begin with, but my class were so welcoming that it didn’t take me long to settle in. We’re all really good friends now. College is so much better than school. It’s a lot more chilled; you can pretty much do as you please.

During the course we are classroom-based for 3 days a week and we get to go on placement for the other 2 days. We work with babies and young children up to eight years old. My favourite has been the nursery placement; working with kids aged 2-5. I really enjoy teaching the children something new and then seeing them remember it a few days later.

The childhood studies tutors are such a great team; they go above and beyond to help all of their students. My tutors have always pushed me to achieve my best and thanks to their help and support I will be leaving college this year with a Level 3 diploma with distinction grades in all of my units!

I am now planning on pursuing a career in teaching. I’ve just secured a job as a teaching assistant at a local school, working in the nursery. I’m really enjoying it.

Next year I want to come back to college to study the Level 4/5 foundation degree part-time whilst also working in the nursery. I then hope to progress to university to get the qualifications I need to become a teacher.”
