Caitlin Fortescue hopes for a career in Child Mental Health

Caitlin Fortescue, one of our Level 3 Health and Social Care students is looking forward to a career in Child Development. Her qualifications at GCSE inspired her to progress further within health and social care, with a particular focus on children’s mental health.

We spoke to Caitlin about the course and what she hopes to progress onto after completing her Level 3 Qualification next year.

I went straight into level 3 after doing child development at GCSE.

“I chose this course because I wanted to do something around social care and mental health. I thought college was the right option for me. I went straight into level 3 after doing child development at GCSE. I chose college over Sixth Form so that I could focus on one subject that I was passionate about rather than struggling to choose three.”

You have to do 50 hours of placement this year and then 150 hours next year.

“I enjoyed unit one the most, it was about human lifespan and was more related to child development. I am more into the social than the medical side, I find it more interesting. I have done a placement in a nursery working with newborns and babies. I preferred working with the toddlers and teaching them how to write and play etc. You have to do 50 hours of placement this year and then 150 hours next year.”

I’m hoping to get an apprenticeship working in a nursery.

“After this year I have my second year to complete and then I’m hoping to get an apprenticeship working in a nursery or a social care setting. I want to work within children’s mental health but I will see how next year goes before deciding.”
