Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and Clothing (Art and Design)

“I always enjoyed sewing and I feel like I have learnt a lot here. From how garments are designed to pattern cutting, I’ve been able to expand my knowledge and have learned the full design process which is really cool. I’ve actually started making a lot of my own clothes now.

I’ve really enjoyed working on the pieces for the fashion show. My architecture project is inspired by Victorian mills and factories. I’ve created a shift dress with a very high collar which has a zip running all the way down the front. It has different samples of shapes inspired by the mills stitched on to the main shape.  Some are quilted; some are hand stitched to represent the brickwork of the mills.

I’ve used mainly cotton but I’ve used a lot of recycled fabric. The majority of it is second hand from charity shops or bought online. I’m also using a vintage kimono fabric in the piece. I can’t wait to see my friend model it on the catwalk.

I’ll be coming back to college next year to study the second year of the course then I hope to go on to study fashion at university.”
