The Counsellors are happy to talk to you about anything that is bothering you, however large or small you think the issue is.
What is counselling and how may it help me?
Life at college can be rewarding, fun and exciting but it can also be a time of stress and there may be a whole range of difficulties and dilemmas affecting your life and studies. The College Counselling Service is one of the support services which are there to help. Our qualified counsellors offer one-to-one, confidential counselling to all enrolled students on any personal concerns or difficulties, whether they involve life in college or outside. There are a number of ways in which counselling can help, such as:
Counselling aims to give you the time, space and encouragement to explore and understand the issues you bring. The counsellor will be able to help you think about your problems from a different perspective. Their role is to provide you with a safe space in which to reflect upon your situation and help you choose and plan the best way forward for you.
Students who wish to make an appointment are welcome to book themselves in by telephoning or dropping by Student Services or speak to their tutor who can make an appointment on the student’s behalf. Alternatively, students can e-mail the counsellors directly via our student intranet, where they will also find a wide range of information booklets and sources of further support such as websites and helplines.
The counsellors are available throughout the week, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.
Through the main entrance, turn left, and we are on the right-hand side after the lifts.

What happens in counselling?
Sessions with a counsellor usually last for fifty minutes and are held in confidence in a counselling room. Your first appointment will provide an opportunity to explore your reason for coming and will help build a clearer picture of your needs.
Confidentiality
The college counselling service is highly confidential, we do not inform anyone that you have come to counselling or what you have talked about unless we feel you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. This is one of the fundamental aspects of counselling that makes it an effective way of helping whilst also protecting the safety of our students. Any information recorded by the counsellors is for monitoring purposes only, it is kept separate to all other academic records.
