Ian Dove - Foundation Degree in Health Related Exercise and Fitness After completing his A Levels, Ian began the Foundation Degree in Health Related Exercise and Fitness at Chesterfield College. Although not 100 per cent certain on his eventual career, Ian rates the course as it prepares him for a wide variety of paths he can go down in the industry. “The course is great, as are the tutors. Unlike at university, each tutor is more than happy to spend a lot of one on one time with you so no question goes unanswered! The course modules provide a great range of industry | ![]()
knowledge from physical activity and the prescription of exercise right through to the study of disease. I quite fancy studying down the medical route after I’ve gained my qualification, perhaps leading to something along the lines of a GP, maybe even a Surgeon.” Amongst theoretical studies, the course also includes work placements so students can actually experience certain roles in the working world. “I originally went to Mansfield Town Football Club to work with their physiotherapy team and followed this by working at the Ringwood Hall Gym in Chesterfield, they were both great and gave me good sense of what is required in such professions.”
| Kat Bagshaw - Applied Computing Degree “I work in the projection industry and due to the massive shift towards it becoming digital I decided to do the Applied Computing Degree to enable me to progress my future career with knowledge of computer networking. Having the college on my doorstep was a real bonus as it meant that rather than going to university, I could gain my degree whilst remaining at work full-time. The course provides a wide range of skills with options to follow routes ranging from gaming technology route through to internet business. The staff are great and are always willing to help out. It’s brilliant to have tutors that not only have the skills but also the vast industry experience not just in teaching. It’s fascinating to find out how the industry itself has evolved over the years.” |
Cheryl - Foundation Degree Having raised her family, Cheryl decided that she was ready to build on the skills she already has as a primary school teaching assistant, and enrolled on a Foundation Degree at Chesterfield College. Cheryl is passionate about her job in primary education, and would like to work towards a career in teaching. “I have developed new skills that I aim to take forward on to the BA Honours degree. This course has been more theory based than what I have studied before, but it has been a really enjoyable experience.” | ![]() |
![]() | Karena - Foundation Course Twenty-eight year old Nursery Nurse, Karena, felt that she needed to develop her education from where she left off as a teenager, and applied for the Foundation Course at College. Karena is in her final year of the course and has applied for the BA Hons Early Years top up degree at Sheffield Hallam. “The course made me realise what I really want to do, working with children and making a difference. Our teaching group was small so we were all there for each other to offer support.” |
