Chesterfield College’s Educational Guidance Advisers have worked hard to form close links with Oxford University and were delighted to take 16 of its high achieving AS students to the Oxford Further Education Open Day this year and then on to Warwick University the following day. Both universities are well known for their academic excellence yet differ greatly so the students were able to experience the contrast.

The visit was funded by Aimhigher and along with the students were College Educational Guidance Advisers Sandra Currey, Rebecca Evans and Wendy Peters. The FE Open Day was held at Worcester College and after an introductory admissions talk and subject panel sessions, students were taken on guided tours of Worcester and the other colleges by student ambassadors.

After the open day the students were taken punting and a great time was had by all. The day was rounded off with a meal at the Mitre Restaurant before retiring to student accommodation at Mansfield College, Oxford.

The following day the students visited Warwick University which was recently voted the best campus in the UK. Again, the College students were met by student ambassadors who led them on a guided tour of the campus before having an in-depth discussion with them about life at the University in general.
