To promote the benefits of furthering their education after school, Chesterfield College has organised three days in which it invited Year 6 students from schools in the surrounding area to experience life at the College.
The event, known as ‘Next Steps’, saw the College run a series of workshops, promoting the variety of courses available to students when they leave school. Workshops ranged from childcare, in which the children had the chance to make play dough and discuss the different things it could be used for, to catering, where children created their own pasta sauce from a range of ingredients. For the scientists among them, the science workshop provided the children with microscopes so they could find and identify different organisms found in pond water.
With eager smiles on all their faces, it was evident how much the children enjoyed it as they showed endless amounts of enthusiasm in the workshops they were involved in. The event was thought to be an enormous success; teachers commented on how useful the day was on motivating the children and showing them the opportunities available at College when they leave school.
